I had The Impossible for quite a while now but never had an evening calm and uneventful enough to sit down and watch it. The movie is about a family of 5 who travel to Thailand to celebrate Christmas in 2004 when the Indian Ocean tsunami hits. Wiki says that the Indian Ocean earthquake which resulted in the tsunami ’caused the entire planet to vibrate as much as 1 centimetre and triggered other earthquakes as far away as Alaska.’ I felt like choking as I watched the film, choking on tears and my heart stuck somewhere between horror, a heart attack and a disbelief that this actually happened to people and yes, the family survived. Almost a quarter of a million of lives lost however, lost without a trace. If I were to take, shape, bottle up the emotion and the visuals seen in the movie, the underwater scenes which were nauseating to say the least, the state of the hospitals, the hopeless of it all, and multiply it thousandfold…well….I do not know what a human heart ought to be made of to survive events like this one. And I sure hope to never ever have to go through anything even remotely similar to the Impossible.
